It’s a ‘crazy love’ affair
‘Crazy Love’ is how Leslie Morgan Steiner describes why people stay in violent relationships.
On Friday 13 September, Ms Morgan Steiner will be hosted by the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre to speak at a luncheon targeting largely the professional community. Morgan-Steiner is a Harvard and Wharton graduate, a New York Times bestselling author and a columnist for the Washington Post and is a survivor of domestic violence. She will share her story and explain her concept of ‘Crazy Love’ and how people fall into violent relationships, why they stay and why it is unfair to judge the victim.
The event will take place at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and in addition to the keynote speaker, will feature a shopping and networking element and other entertainment. Interested local vendors are invited to purchase an exhibition table for CI$150 and donate a small portion of sales to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre. Tickets for the event are CI$100 per person and the purchase of tables of 10 is strongly encouraged.
The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and has housed over 700 women and their children since open its doors in 2003. Denise Gower, event organiser and CICC board member explained the concept behind the event: “we saw Leslie Morgan Steiner’s Ted Talk and were inspired by her story and the honesty with which she spoke. Her message is important and relevant to everyone: that violence against women is not acceptable in any society, in any culture, in any home anywhere in the world. We need to let people know that help is available to them here in the Cayman Islands and they are not alone”.
All of the proceeds from the event will go towards the CICC’s operations, including 24-hour security, counselling services for clients, education and outreach in schools and running of the home.
For those looking to sponsor this event, to exhibit or buy a table, please contact Denise Gower at 749 8188 or by email at [email protected]
