Jamaica: Vote them out!
McKenzie urges citizens not to support non-performing politicians in local gov’t polls

LUCEA, Hanover — Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie is urging citizens to vote against non-performing politicians in the impending local government elections.
“You have a God-given right, and we talk about the gifts of God and the things that God has done for us. That is a gift that God has given unto every single Jamaican. The right to vote, the right to exercise that democratic right to refuse those of us who failed in our responsibilities,” McKenzie argued.
“And, I challenge the congregation this morning [Sunday] to use that power. Use it in a way that none of us will ever forget that you are the ones that hold the balance of power. If you don’t elect us, we can’t be elected. This is not a totalitarian system where we impose ourselves on you.”
The minister was addressing the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development National Church Service at the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in Lucea, Hanover on Sunday, to mark the start of Local Government and Community Month.
