All went according to plan for Jamaican squash ace, Chris Binnie, who won the men’s title at the 2012 Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Senior Championships in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday night.

The reigning All Jamaica Senior men’s champion blew through the field of contenders, successfully defending his regional title without losing a set.

The final was business as usual, with Binnie beating Caymanian Cameron Stafford 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 to lift the Caribbean trophy for the third time.

“There was a lot of pressure on me coming into the final because Cameron is a good player and it’s always difficult to defend a title, but I was able to maintain my composure and push through and it always feels great when you win,” Binnie said.

The much-anticipated match, which pitted the top-ranked Binnie against the number two seed, had its moments of drama as the Jamaican had to contend with several questionable calls. However, the 23-year-old Binnie managed to keep his head and effectively deliver a squash lesson to the younger Stafford, who grew less competitive as the match wore on.

“The calls weren’t going my way and, of course, I wasn’t happy about it, but when those things happen you just have to keep composed, and I stayed focused on my game plan and played how I wanted to play so that I could win,” Binnie noted.

The victory is the latest triumph for the Jamaican, who joined the Professional Squash Association’s (PSA) Tour earlier this year. In June he won the British Virgin Islands Open to claim his first PSA title, and in July he successfully defended his All Jamaica Senior Men’s Championship.

“My goal is to be in the top 100 of the PSA by the end of the year so I have a few more tournaments in the US and Canada in November and December, where I should gain more points and hopefully keep climbing in the rankings,” he added.

First up, however, Binnie and his Jamaican teammates have the team competition. Last year, Jamaica placed second overall and the team is now seeking a first-place finish.
