Jamaican wanted for Cayman bank robbery remanded
A Jamaican man who is wanted in the Cayman Islands for bank robbery was yesterday remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Ryan Edwards was ordered remanded by Magistrate Georgianna Fraser until October 4 after the court was told that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) was awaiting formal extradition request from the Cayman Islands.
Edwards was arrested last month on a provisional warrant and a large quantity of Cayman currency allegedly found in his possession.
The robbery happened in June, shortly after which Edwards allegedly fled to Jamaica.
Prosecutor Geremy Taylor, who heads the ODPP’s Extradition Unit, told the court that Edwards is also facing a criminal charge in Jamaica.
