Jamaica’s Independence celebration for September in Philly
News Americas, Philadelphia, PA, Friday, August 10, 2018: Jamaica’s 56thanniversary of independence celebration will extend into September in Philadelphia.
Non-profit organization, Team Jamaica Bickle, which caters to hundreds of students, athletes and coaches from Jamaica and the Caribbean at the annual Penn Relays annually, will celebrate the anniversary with an awards dinner on Saturday September 1, 2018.
The event is set for the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue at 4200 City Avenue in Philadelphia from 7 PM – midnight. The celebration promises to be entertaining with MC Andrea A. Lawless-Sanders and music by Trilogy.
Team Jamaica Bickle, Philadelphia will honor several local Philadelphians who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Caribbean community.
Jalawelo, (Jamaica Land We Love www.jalawelo.com), will receive the Team Jamaica Bickle International Community Service Award. Jalawelo provides support services to several high-risk communities in Jamaica. These services include youth empowerment, parent training and support, income generating projects and capacity building. The faith-based organization was founded by Donna Gabbadon and her family.
And Donavan West will receive the Team Jamaica Bickle Community Service Award. West is Chief Operating Officer of People For People, a Philadelphia-based non-profit involved in education in the Philadelphia area.
The Independence Dinner/Dance is also a fundraising activity for Team Jamaica Bickle, Philadelphia in preparation of hosting the athletes and coaches at the next Penn Relays. Tickets cost $100 each.
