The discussion took place after the Minister briefed members of the Diplomatic Corps about the inaugural United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Conference on Tourism Development and Sustainability which will run from November 27 to 29, 2017 at the at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Montego Bay in St. James Jamaica. The briefing took place on Monday (July 31, 2017) at Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The Minister told the diplomats that the conference will mark the first time that the UNWTO and its affiliate members will stage a world conference on tourism in the Caribbean or the Americas. It will also be the first time that the private and public-sector arms of the UNWTO are coming together for a global event. The Minister of Tourism noted that two of the expected deliverables from the conference will be Montego Bay Declaration and the publication of the second UNWTO Affiliate Members Global Report on Public-Private-Partnerships. He said the UNWTO will also present a report to the UN General Assembly in 2018, with regards to the activities of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, of which the conference will play a major role. The briefing took place on Monday (July 31, 2017) at Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
