Jeremy LaLonde casts Iggy Pop in new comedy film ‘Blue Iguana’ [being filmed in the Cayman Islands]

By Drew Wardle From FAR OUT

It has been announced that the godfather of punk, Iggy Pop, will be starring in Jeremy LaLonde’s upcoming dark comedy film, Blue Iguana. Filming started on March 8th and was scheduled to be completed by April 2nd.

Pop will star as ‘Edward’, a wealthy patriarch whose death sparks a kill-or-be-killed scenario between Edward’s children in an attempt to gain his wealth. Pop will be joining a brilliant cast that includes Bob Saget, Joel David Moore, Jason Jones, Carly Chaikin, and Mary Lynn Rasjkub.

Blue Iguana is being filmed in the Cayman Islands – the native home of the blue iguana. Ironically, the singer’s first band was called The Iguanas, which is where his pseudonym, ‘Iggy’, originated. Supposedly, this is purely coincidental, and there is no overt connection.

Canadian director, Jeremy LaLonde’s new film will also be the first one under a new contract deal between Canadian Film Firm Productivity Media and US Company, Darius Films. Various establishments of the Cayman Islands are involved in the making of the film as well.

According to NME, both heads of the joint-film production agreement, William G. Santor and Darius President, Nicholas Tabarrok, said in a statement, “We are beyond ecstatic to have the legendary Iggy Pop join the cast of Blue Iguana.”

Commenting on the bizarre connection between Iggy’s name and the film’s setting, they added, “While purely coincidental to his casting, his name is derived from the word iguana so it couldn’t be more fitting that Iggy joins our already stellar cast. We can’t wait to work with him in the beautiful Cayman Islands.”

Throughout his career, Iggy Pop has starred in a number of different films, including the famous Jim Jarmusch film, Coffee and Cigarettes, and starred alongside partner in crime, Tom Waits.
