Join an international community of leaders and stakeholders at the upcoming CRFM Side Events during the UN SIDS4 Conference
The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Office of the Prime Minister, Government of Antigua and Barbuda, are partnering with the CARICOM Secretariat, the National Fisheries Authority of Jamaica, and Green Initiative to host two 90-minute seminars as side events during the 4th International United Nations SIDS4 Conference.
SEMINAR TITLES
1. Revitalizing SIDS Economies & Food and Nutrition Security through the Sustainable Use of our Living Marine Resources.
2. Accelerating the Decarbonization of Fisheries in the Caribbean: from science-based targets to climate mitigation finance.
Why attend?
The purpose of this seminar is to engage in an interactive multi-agency discussion on the sustainable use of living marine resources and the vital role of aquatic foods (including fish and other seafood) in the post-COVID revitalization of the economics of SIDS, with a focus on Caribbean SIDS, and to highlight the value of the region’s natural aquatic resource base for improving the region’s food and nutrition security while helping to chart the course towards resilient prosperity by helping to reduce the region’s food import bill by 25% by 2025, in accordance with the CARICOM Heads of Government mandate of 2020.
Access to finance and risk insurance are key to ensuring that the fisheries and aquaculture sector can retool itself while implementing critical mitigation and adaptation measures that will strengthen its resilience. In response to the need to reduce CO2 and other GHG emissions in the fisheries sector, the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) is keen on improving understanding of the impact of small-scale fisheries on these emissions. This seminar is intended to strengthen the dialogue on how the fisheries and aquaculture sector can contribute to positive change.
