KINGSTON, Jamaica, Wednesday March 19, 2014, CMC – A 50-year-old man will return to court on March 28 when the case against him for attempting to bribe fellow jurors in the just concluded trial of popular entertainer, Vybz Kartel (Adidja Palmer) is expected to continue.

The court was told Tuesday that Livingston Cain the only person in the 11-member jury to have voted against a guilty verdict in the trial had even offered his fellow jurors as much as half a million dollars (One Jamaica dollar = US$0.001 cents) to have Kartel acquitted of the crime.

The singer and three other co-accused were last Thursday found guilty of the 2001 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Cain made his first appearance in court on Tuesday to answer five counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and one count of conspiring with persons unknown to pervert the course of justice.  Cain, who was arrested after the Kartel case was finished, has denied the allegations.

He was offered bail in the sum of J$750,000 and warned not to make any efforts to contact any member of the Kartel jury. He is also report to the police daily and a stop order has been placed on him at the ports.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Paula Llewellyn told the court that after failing to convince other jurors to find Kartel and his co-accused not guilty during the course of the trial, Cain approached the foreman last Thursday and told her he wanted to speak to her privately.

Llewellyn said the foreman accompanied Cain to the Supreme Court library and took along her BlackBerry cellphone because of information she had received from other jurors. She said the foreman recorded the statements made by Cain in which he said he wanted her to “come to a not guilty verdict against the five accused.”

The DPP told the court that the stunned foreman again spoke with Cain in a bid to confirm what he had said and it was then he allegedly made an offer of the half million dollars to get the accused freed.

She said the foreman then reported the matter to Registrar at the Supreme Court, who brought the matter to the attention of the presiding judge, Justice Lennox Campbell
