Keys to new home changes the life of owner
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (13 February, 2015) The Sister Islands Affordable Housing Development Corporation (SIAHDC) has handed over the keys to the last of four homes built at Watering Place, Cayman Brac, to delighted new home owner, Mr. Lorraine Brown.
The keys to the spacious 3 bedroom home were handed over by Sidney “Jackie” Ebanks, Chairman of the Housing Corporation. Also in attendance were Mark Tibbetts, Deputy District Commissioner, along with SIAHDC Directors Larry Brian and Temple Tatum.
Due to prior commitments in Grand Cayman, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, Minister for Tourism and District Representative for Cayman Brac was unable to attend, but sent his congratulations to the new homeowner. “The demand for well built, affordable homes is growing in Cayman Brac and I am very pleased that through the prudent management of government funds, we have been able to provide the Sister Islands Affordable Housing Development Corporation with funding to construct four more homes in this development. As well as meeting a very real need for moderate income housing, these homes are changing the lives of residents like Mr. Brown and his family, by giving them the means to become homeowners. This is something they would not be able to accomplish otherwise and is indicative of government’s commitment to doing all that we can to help people to help themselves,” he said.
“Our new home is fantastic, I am thrilled,” said Mr. Brown, the excited homeowner. “This is a dream come true and I cannot tell you what a difference it will make for me and to my family. Inside the house is well designed and there is even space to put a garden,” he said.
Ground breaking for the four new homes took place in August 2014 and contracts were awarded to locally based Cayman Brac contractors following an open tender process. Funding for the project was approved in the Ministry’s 2014/15 budgetary appropriations.
