Kia Corporation recorded total global sales of 210,177 units in February 2021, a 7 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
Kia’s SUV range led the company’s global sales with the Sportage and Seltos SUV models selling 26,790 and 26,619 units each, followed by the Rio subcompact sedan with 18,417 units.
Korea sales
Sales in Korea recorded 37,583 units, a 31 percent jump from February 2020. This sharp increase was due to production disruptions that took place last year amid the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside this year’s buoyant sales of the Carnival minivan and K5 sedan models.
Sales outside of Korea
Compared to February 2020, sales outside of Korea saw a 2.9 percent rise to 172,594 units, steered by the Sportage and Seltos SUV range, and the Rio subcompact sedan.
Despite the challenging global business environment due to the ongoing pandemic, Kia will continue to focus on implementing its mid- to long-term business strategy ‘Plan S’, which was renewed in early February of this year, as well as building sales momentum and profitability through new model line-ups, including the company’s first dedicated BEV model and the K8 (success of the K7 model) sedan.
