The Security Centre Limited has launched an employment development program in partnership with the Cayman Islands Boxing Association (CIBA), which creates opportunities for young Caymanians to get on-the-job training in the security industry.

The internship program, designed by Security Centre’s human resources team, includes a range of course modules to give experience in all aspects of company operations – from accounts and sales to electronic security systems and guarding.

Security Centre Business Development Manager, Dean Sinclair says the 3-month program is designed around a core curriculum – specifically constructed to give young Caymanians a chance to get experience in the workforce in a learning friendly setting. The participants are identified through collaboration with CIBA, where young committed, and disciplined boxers are offered opportunities to get involved and get started in learning about business.

The first participant is Alex Smith, who recently won a gold medal, at the Caribbean Championships in St. Lucia. Outside of his passion for boxing, Alex has a particular interest in electronics and is currently joining Security Centre Technicians in a range of electronic security systems installations and servicing.

“We’re happy to be able to support the development of young Caymanians through this internship program and we would like to help launch and kick this off more broadly across the Cayman Islands. We hope this initiative will continue to encourage other local businesses to develop similar programs.” Says Mr Sinclair.

“Having attended the boxing gym, I saw the commitment and focus of these young athletes and felt we could develop a program to create opportunities if some of them wanted to have some professional experience to help them become workforce ready.” Explained Mr Sinclair.

Leyla Jackson, CIBA President said: “The new partnership with the Security Centre is a positive educational pathway that is creating opportunities for young Caymanians to get work experience in a structured environment.

“The Security Centre provide some financial support for the participants and sponsorship for CIBA, we are really pleased to be a part of it and we think it will make a strong contribution to the development of young Caymanians.”Said Leyla.
