Labour: NZ the Cayman Islands of the South Pacific
Labour claims New Zealand is becoming the Cayman Islands of the South Pacific.
This following a TV segment last night showing the number of tax free foreign trusts based here for overseas billionaires has almost doubled since National came to power.
Labour MP David Clark says it is a serious ethical issue, but Revenue Minister Peter Dunne seems more concerned about cracking down on workers with car parks than ensuring everyone pays their fair share.
“New Zealand’s had a reputation for having a fair tax system historically unfortunately that’s being undermined.
“We can see that something is going on here and we need to investigate them and make sure we are not serving the causes of ill in the world.”
Mr Clark is outraged Mr Dunne has explained it away as “legitimate tax avoidance”.
