Launch of the book “Women of Latin America and the Caribbean” (Mujeres de America Latina y el Caribe )

UNESCO and GRULAC pay tribute to women all around the world for their everyday work and struggle for a better world, where all human beings would benefit from equal opportunities for education, decent work, participation in democratic processes and equal share of the scientific progress and cultural life. The event consist of presentation of the book “Women of Latin America and the Caribbean” and discussion on the topic of women’s rights and women’s empowerment, followed by artistic performance of songs and poems written by women or inspired by women.
The book is result of collaboration of 17 countries of the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. It gathers the biographies of 17 extraordinary women from different educational backgrounds, social status and professions, but united by their determination not only to shape their own destiny, but also to make effective their right to think, to express themselves and to occupy the public space they had been denied the access throughout the human history.
