Laura Bush blue-penciled from Gay Marriage ad

Laura Bush has been removed from a television advertisement promoting gay marriage after complaining about her inclusion.
The ad, which launched Wednesday, included clips of the former First Lady along with ex-Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and President Barack Obama speaking out in support of gay marriage.
Bush was quoted from an interview with Larry King in 2010, saying, “When couples are committed to each other and love each other then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has.”
However, the same day Bush’s spokeswoman Anne MacDonald asked for the clip to be removed as Bush didn’t approve of being in the advertisement, Politico reports.
“We used public comments for this ad from American leaders who have expressed support for civil marriage,” the coalition said. “We appreciate Mrs. Bush’s previous comments but are sorry she didn’t want to be included in an ad. The ad launched a public education campaign that will now move to new and different voices that reflect the depth and breadth of our support.”
A new ad has aired in place of the original, which includes a Republican former Marine Craig Stowell and his wife discussing their support of gay marriage, especially after his brother came out.
“As Americans, we believe in freedom. That’s what I fought for as a Marine, and that’s what we believe in as Republicans. Freedom means freedom for everyone,” Stowell said.
