Lawrence looking forward to Caribbean derby – T&T expects stern challenge from Reggae Boyz

From Sportsmax

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dennis Lawrence insists the team is looking forward to another ‘Caribbean derby’ ahead of next week’s friendly international against rivals Jamaica.

The twin island republic is expected to host the Reggae Boyz at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva next week as preparations intensify ahead of next month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers.

The Jamaicans, the Caribbean’s second highest ranked team, are expected to provide a stern test for the Trinidadians following a strong showing in last month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Reggae Boyz made a surprise run to the final of the competition before losing 2-1 to the United States but had knocked off Caribbean kingpins Mexico in the semifinals.

“I think the Jamaica game is going to be a fantastic test for the boys because Jamaica did really well in the Gold Cup,” Lawrence said.

“They are going to come here obviously on a high and we are looking forward to the game. It’s going to be good for the local players.  We have also managed to acquire the services of a couple of the foreign players so I think it’s important that we give them some match time ahead of the Honduras game.”

Trinidad and Tobago will tackle Honduras on September 1st at the Ato Boldon Stadium, before facing Panama at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City on September 5.
