CAYMANIANS CANNOT OWN HOUSES, CAYMANIANS CANNOT GET A JOB IN THEIR OWN HOMELAND. WHAT NEXT?
Just 48 ours ago government announced that the Housing development is discontinuing offering affordable houses to Caymanians. This is very sad news. Caymanians are always getting disenfranchised while the powers that be works very hard and over time to please every foreigner that enters our shores. Tell me something new, If you thought it was too good to be true, it probably is.
Guys are you not left scratching your heads crying “Good heavens, affordable housing is AFFORDABLE HOUSING?!”
The price is normally tailored for low income individuals or low income families! Therefore Government cannot now expect to compete with the Real Estate Market, if so, then you are indeed not only abandoning the affordable housing but is in fact ABANDONING THOSE FAMILIES who qualify for affordable housing.
Perhaps Housing Development really does not understand the concept of affordable housing nor who really qualifies, nor the criteria?
Perhaps Housing Development really does not understand that the price of affordable housing is way below the free real estate market price? There is no comparison.
So how is government now looking to make a profit on affordable housing by leasing the houses? This is not a comprehensive move by Housing Development It makes absolutely no sense and is very insensitive to the needs of those who are financially challenged.
The only upside to this saga is that the applicant will be able to lease or rent to own which is not a bad thing. But I am curious to hear what lease or rental rates will be quoted or expected from these people. Will Caymanians have first preference or will Tom Dick and Harry coming off the flight be able to beat Caymanians to the draw?
Bottonline:
Either the government is serving the poor people or you are NOT!
This is a very dangerous move for political party PR, not to mention the loss of political support to be expected. It’s bad enough not being allowed to work in your own homeland.
But now this? Caymanians now being denied to purchase affordable housing in their homeland too?!!!
Something in this milk is not clean.
A wrong and dangerous decision. This is a personal or political ploy designed for selfish reasons. How did they arrive at a figure of $292,000 per home? Are these jokers joking with me or what? they can’t be serious!
Affordable housing calls for good management. It is a comprehensive affordable housing scheme all over the world. Seems like somebody doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing.
Government seems to have gotten RIPPED OFF WITH THE LAND PURCHASE.
Hope this is not de ja vu all over again.
Having worked in real estate, if everything is handled honestly, there is NO REASON ON EARTH why the affordable housing scheme cannot work.
WE ARE BEING A LITTLE HOODWINKED HERE I’M AFRAID.
