Do some political candidates understand that advertising is not for free?
I was driving on my way to town this morning listening to Cayman Cross Talk, as I was passing through the Red Bay area, I heard something that was very disturbing.
I heard the Rooster Cayman Cross Talk show host complain that one candidate running for office seems to be seeking free advertising or FREE publicity. I could not believe my ears. Why couldn’t this be handled without the public knowing about it?
The show host rambled on for a bit…and we finally got the message, OK candidates, don’t expect Rooster to advertise your candidacy helping you with your campaign for FREE it’s an insult. So make sure you are part of a strong coalition with deep pockets that can help you get your name out there.
Advertising is very, very important, businesses and politicians can not win without advertising, so put your hands in your pocket just like all the other candidates have been doing for the last two or three decades, ’cause if you don’t; know one will remember you or know you’re running for office. Therefore you can lose votes for not being visible in the public eye. Whether in media or on platform.
Just to help some of you young rookies jumping into the race, Cayman now has a couple of news media to choose from.
1.Cayman 27 News
2. The Compass Caycompass.com
3. Caymannewsservice
4.Ieyenews.com
5.Caymannetnews.com
6.CayStreetJournal.com (the latest online news media by CayStreet Publications, LLC now serving Cayman)
No excuses for not getting your name out there. Shop and buy Ads in all of the news papers and news media. Different people read different news papers, whether online or in print. Don’t leave out any of them, unless they really are jerks. Ask them for the best deals. You might be surprised some of them will work with your budget.
also you should be doing fundraising, or have people raising funds for you.
You should be soliciting help or have a campaign committee put together.
This is one of the advantages of the party system or a team, they raise their own money to assist in all advertising.
So Independents you have to really have your act together and know how you’re going to beat your opponents by putting yourself out there for everyone to see. Whether on the radio, TV, news paper print, or online.
Good luck, and hope you get a lot of donations.
