Following from an initial presentation made to students at the Lighthouse School on December 3rd, 2013, all students now have iPads to improve their teaching and learning experience.

December 3rd is the International day for persons with disabilities and at Lighthouse School’s open house, Cayman Residents Chris and Debora Gill presented 90 iPads to the school.  In 2012, as part of the Ministry of Education’s initiative to integrate technology into the classrooms of students with special needs, 12 iPads were provided as part of a pilot project. The additional 90 iPads have now been set up with educational software, and the Ministry of Education’s ICT Unit made the presentation to Lighthouse School’s teachers last week.

Mr. Steve Durksen, ICT Manager for the Ministry of Education, and his team are very excited about this donation and what it means for ICT Integration in the school.  He said, “Tablet computing and mobile devices continue to dramatically impact education.   My team and I are very excited to be working with the Ministry’s ICT Integration Specialist Mr. Mark Ray and the staff of the Lighthouse School to bring this cutting-edge technology to the students.  The iPads provide an improved learning experience for the students with specialised Apps designed for students with special needs.”

Mr. Durksen continued, “On behalf of the Ministry, I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Gill for their very generous donation and helping bring this project to reality quicker than originally planned.”
