Lightning really did strike twice in the same place – the ring inside the D Dalmain Boxing Gym.

Peter “Lightning” Lewison came up against experienced and more mature US fighter Brant Skylar on Saturday night.

But Peter proved if you’re good enough – then you are certainly old enough with a classy and professional display to see off Skylar inside just two rounds.

Lightning struck in the first – with a neat combination of blows that saw Skylar hit the canvas and subjected to a standing “8” count.

Then 24-year-old Lightning struck again with a powerful uppercut that took Skylar, from Florida, off his feet for a second time in as many rounds.

This time – despite surviving another standing count – referee Nayon Donnie Anglin had seen enough and with Skylar’s legs wobbling more than Elvis Presley in full swing, the bout was rightly halted.

It was a great win for Peter who afterwards thanked his team, supporters, sponsors and God for the victory.

Earlier the crowd were treated to some fine fighting with local youngster Javaka Kellier taking on Tafari Ebanks.

Tafari edged the first and grew stronger throughout the bout. His speed and quick reflexes were backed up by a series of powerful punches and in the end, he proved too much for Javaka who also took a standing count in the third.

Dariel Ebanks, fresh from his recent trip to Azerbaijan where he represented Cayman in the World Amateur Games took to the ring to face Luke Willingdon.

What Dariel lost in size to the powerful Canadian, he certainly made up for with skill and he rounded off a neat performance with a comfortable victory – blooding Luke’s nose in the third.

But Willingdon put up a brave fight and was unlucky not to connect with one of his powerful right hands in the early rounds.

Local favourite Tracey Seymour was disappointed not to face Okeno Solomon who pulled out at the last minute.

A call was put out to the crowd for a worthy opponent willing to step into Okeno’s boots but a sudden silence descended around the
Dalmain Gym.

But she still treated the audience to a fine display in the ring with Norman “Stormin” Wilson putting her through her paces with the pads.

But it wasn’t just boxing on the card last Saturday. In between bouts there was entertainment provided first by the Mean Source Dancers and then a comedy defence exhibition from Bob Daigle.

But one of the loudest cheers came for local rapper Black Ken who’s clever lyrics would have put even Eminem to shame.
