Liverpool need to be more decisive
KENNY DALGLISH has called on his Liverpool FC forwards to be more decisive in the final third if they are to improve on some of the most lacklustre attacking statistics in the Premier League.
Liverpool drew another blank against Stoke on Saturday, yet a meagre return of just 20 goals is not for a lack of trying.
Only Manchester City have attempted more shots than the Reds in the Premier League this season.
But while the Premier League leaders had scored 56 goals (from 282 shots) prior to last night’s trip to Wigan, Liverpool have managed just 20.
Liverpool have attempted more crosses than any other top flight team this season (592), but only Wigan and Arsenal have a poorer crossing accuracy
And their chance conversion rate is the lowest in the league, jointly with Wigan Athletic.
Dalglish acknowledged the problem after Saturday’s draw.
“Deliveries into the box have got to be a lot better than what they were and we have to be more decisive when we get up there,” he said.
We had plenty of possession but there was nothing to finish it.
“We fell down because we never passed it to someone in a red shirt who could put it in the back of the net.
“We lacked a bit of creativity. It wasn’t a great spectacle.”
One of the players Dalglish will be hoping for greater ruthlessness from is winger Stewart Downing.
Downing has now taken 46 shots for Liverpool in the Premier League and is yet to score, going close again on Saturday.
And he is still waiting for his first Premier League assist, although he has seen Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez spurn glorious chances from his crosses.
