Lord Blencathra contract ends
GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – A contract between Two Lions Consultancy Ltd., a UK company of which Lord Blencathra is a principal, and the Cayman Islands Government will terminate on Monday, 31st March, 2014. With its termination, Lord Blencathra’s services as Director of the Cayman Islands Government Office will also cease with effect from the same date.
Cayman Islands Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin, Home Affairs Chief Officer Eric Bush and Lord Blencathra met in London last week to discuss the impact of the recent amendments to Code of Conduct for the House of Lords on the contract dated 1 November, 2012, between the Cayman Islands Government and Two Lions Consultancy Ltd.
“We have mutually concluded that some terms of the contract could be construed to be in conflict with the recently amended Lords Code of Conduct guidelines and that on that basis the agreement of 1 November, 2012 will be terminated on 31 March, 2014,” said the Hon. Premier.
Lord Blencathra maintains that his efforts on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government over the course of the 2012 contract in no way breached the code of conduct in effect at the time and a previous investigation by the Lords Commissioner for Standards Paul Kernaghan concluded that there had been no breach.
In addition to his role as the Director of the London Office Lord Blencathra acted as a consultant to the Cayman Islands Government through his company Two Lions Consultancy Ltd. providing advice and guidance on a wide range of UK and EU matters. Mr. McLaughlin said it is critical that the government continues to have the benefit of proper advice on these matters in order to protect and promote the interests of the Cayman Islands and that Government is considering its options in this regard.
