Machel Cedenio runs 44.36 PR to win Cayman Invite; Tarmoh wins Sprint Double
CAYMAN ISLANDS – MAY 16, 2015 (Sporting Alert) — Machel Cedenio of Trinidad and Tobago raced to a big life-time best of 44.36 seconds on his way to winning the men’s 400m at the Cayman Invitational on Saturday night.
Cedenio, who came into the vent with a pervious personal best of 45.09secs, improved that mark en route to defeating a solid lineup at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
The 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships gold medallist, also produced the third fastest time of the outdoor season behind Kirani James’ two best marks of 44.22 and 44.31.
Cedenio is also the second fastest quarter-miler from the Caribbean in 2015 and the joint-quickest all-time from Trinidad and Tobago behind Ian Morris’ national record of 44.21, which was set at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
He joins Deon Lendore as the second fastest-ever from T&T.
Finishing a distant second was Jamaica’s Javon Francis, who was disappointed with his 45.54 secs performance, after coming into the meet feeling in sub-45 seconds shape.
American Aldrich Bailey was third in 45.63.
The women’s race went to Romero Shapri of USA in 51.93 over British Virgin Islands’ Ashley Kelly (53.31) and Ronda Whyte (Jam) 53.57.
Meanwhile, American Jeneba Tarmoh captured the women’s sprint double after posting 22.71 secs to win the 200m before returning later to snatch the 100m crown in 11.16.
Natasha Marrison, a member of the Jamaican winning 4x100m team at the IAAF World Relays 2015 earlier this month, finished second over the 100m in 11.22.
Taking the men’s 100m was Jamaica’s Andrew Fisher in a time of 10.16, ahead of compatriots Kemar Bailey Cole (10.22) and Jason Livermore (10.24).
The men’s 200m went to Asaso Jobodwana of South Africa in 20.06, in front of Zharnel Hughes (Anguilla, 20.15) and Miguel Francis (Antigua, 20.31).
Elsewhere, Olympic bronze medallist Hansle Parchment f Jamaica won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.49 secs, while American Gennie Crawford too the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 13.04 secs.
