Officers of the Financial Crime Unit arrested a 37-year-old Malaysian male national this afternoon (Sat 19).
The arrest follows information received that the male had attempted to obtain high value goods from a number of retail premises in the centre of George Town today.
Following observations in the Harbor Drive area of George Town, the male was detained following a short foot chase. He is now in custody at George Town Police station where inquiries are ongoing.
It is too early to say if this arrest has any connection to the previous two Malaysian males arrested recently in similar circumstances.
A further statement and update will be released on Monday.
