UPDATE: Man arrested in relation to assault incident circulating on Cayman Islands social media, 24 September
Correction:
The man below has been charged with Assault ABH, and not Affray or Damage to Property, as originally stated. He is expected to appear in court Wed (26) afternoon.
Just after 11:50PM on Saturday 22 September, police were made aware of a video that was posted on social media on a plaza off West Bay. The video showed a man being assaulted by another man in the parking lot of this plaza.
The suspect was also heard in the video making threats to man while assaulting him. Several persons were also seen in the video observing the incident taking place. After receiving the report and the footage of the incident, an immediate investigation was launched into the matter.
Just before 2PM today, 24 September, Police arrested the suspect in this matter a 33 year-old-man from West Bay on suspicion of assault abh, affray and damage to property. The man is currently in custody as the investigation progresses.
Superintendent Robert Graham states “The behaviour displayed in this video is not only alarming but also clearly unlawful. Such anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, and any such reports that we are made aware of will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
