BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday May 3, 2016 – Police in Barbados are searching for a man who went missing at sea when a drug boat sank after being intercepted by law enforcement officials on Sunday night.
Lawmen seized 814 pounds of cannabis, which has a street value of BDS$1.6 million (US$800,000), and took a Barbadian and Vincentian into custody.
According to the police, members of the Royal Barbados Police Force’s Drug Squad assisted by the Barbados Coast Guard intercepted a boat about four nautical miles off the island’s west coast, around 8:50 p.m. on Sunday.
“Due to unfavorable conditions at sea, the boat sank,” police said in a statement.
But the law enforcement officials siezed the drugs and detained the two men in connection with the seizure.
“A third man was on board at the time but was not found. Rescue searches are being conducted,” police added.
