Maples and Calder Announces New Chief Operating Officer

Maples and Calder is pleased to announce that Karie Bergstrom has joined the firm as its new Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) for the Cayman Islands office.

In this new role, Karie will be responsible for coordinating the local support teams to ensure global firm initiatives are consistently implemented in the Cayman office to the high standards of the firm.

Prior to joining Maples and Calder, Karie served eight years in a dual role as Director of Consulting and Human Resources with Deloitte, in the Cayman Islands. In addition to her Cayman role, Karie served as the Human Capital Consulting leader for Deloitte’s Caribbean Bermuda Cluster. Her previous experience has encompassed advising clients from various industries on a broad range of business and human capital issues. Over the past twenty five years her experience has covered tourism, public sector, financial services and manufacturing in the Caribbean and the United States. She has a breadth of knowledge in consulting (human capital and strategy and operations), project and change management, strategic planning, legislative reforms, and process and operational efficiency projects.

In addition to her corporate accomplishments, Karie has also been very active in her community service commitments, serving on a number of boards. She is currently a member of the Gender Equality Tribunal and the Legal Review Team to Appeal the Strata Laws of the Cayman Islands. Karie also serves on the Board of Trustees for the International College of the Cayman Islands. She has also served on the Tourism Advisory Council, the Hotel Licensing Board, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association,  the Steering Committee for the National Tourism Management Policy, the Professional Advisory Council for the University College of the Cayman Islands, as well as a member of the review teams for the Immigration Accreditation Review, the Trade & Business Licensing Law Reform and the Immigration Law Review (2003) & 2007 Amendments. In addition, Karie was a founding council member of the Tourism Apprenticeship Council.

Karie grew up in East End and was educated locally and internationally. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management and achieved the professional designation Global Professional of Human Resources (GPHR) from the HR Certification Institute.
