Maples and Calder strengthens Singapore presence
International law firm Maples and Calder continues to strengthen its presence and capabilities in Singapore with the appointment of Michael Gagie to the role of Managing Partner of the firm’s Singapore office and the promotion of associate, Jess Stock to the position of Of Counsel. Michael will relocate to Singapore when all necessary regulatory approvals are obtained.
Michael joined Maples and Calder in 2010 and is ideally suited to his new role, having developed an in-depth understanding of the Asian market and business culture during the eight years in which he has worked in Hong Kong, which included a period as Managing Partner of the Hong Kong office of another international law firm.
Michael practises both BVI and Cayman Islands law and is ranked by Chambers Global and IFLR1000 as a leader in his field. He has extensive experience in corporate, private equity and finance work. He is also global head of the BVI law practice of Maples and Calder.
Jess Stock has been an associate in the Singapore office for almost two years, previously working in the firm’s London office for eight years. Jess’ areas of expertise include corporate, finance and investment funds.
Established in 2012, Maples and Calder’s Singapore office was the firm’s second Asia-focused offering, following the 1995 opening of its office in Hong Kong, and, along with the establishment of the Singapore office of MaplesFS in 2013, which provides fiduciary and fund administration services to Cayman, BVI and Singapore entities, demonstrates the firm’s commitment to the region as part of its Asian growth strategy.
“We are very pleased to make this announcement and look forward to Michael taking up the position in due course,” said Shaun Denton, Managing Partner of Maples and Calder in Hong Kong. “Michael’s contributions to the Hong Kong office have been outstanding and, in line with our long-term commitment to the region, we anticipate continued success in the Singapore office. Michael will be ably supported by Jess, partner Tom Katsaros and associate Grace Teo.”
