Maples continues secondment tradition

51273Two Caymanian lawyers from Maples and Calder have each been given a second opportunity to gain experience in foreign offices by way of a secondment.

Since March 2013, Shari McField has been located in the Dubai office of Maples and Calder. Shari joined the firm in 2006 and entered the Finance practice group upon qualifying as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2008. Her areas of expertise include asset finance, aircraft and vessel finance, aircraft registrations, aircraft mortgage registrations, vessel registrations, and general corporate and commercial law.

Shari has previously been recognised as a Rising Star of Aviation Law by the AirFinance Journal in their Guide to Aviation Lawyers, and completed her first secondment from Maples and Calder to the London office of Clifford Chance in 2011. Shari’s current secondment is expected to continue for a period of approximately one year.

“The opportunity to practise Cayman Islands law from Dubai is an exceptional one and I am very grateful to the firm for the high level of commitment it offers to my career development,” McField said. “The secondment would not have been possible without the support of so many of the partners, associates and members of our support teams in the Cayman and Dubai offices, to each of whom I am most grateful.”

Caroline Dell recently completed her second secondment as part of the in-house legal team at Man Investments, a global asset management company. Caroline was seconded for six months in Man’s London office. Caroline specialises in investment funds, including registered mutual funds, private equity funds and the regulation of investment managers, as well as general corporate and commercial matters.

Speaking on her experience, Caroline said, “I was lucky to be afforded a second opportunity into the rare glimpse of a client’s domain at Man Investments, this time in their London office. The people at Man were great to work with; I sensed an unparalleled level of respect and collegiality. Throughout the secondment, I had the full support of qualified in-house lawyers.”

She continued, “This experience has helped me develop and improve as a lawyer and I am grateful to Maples for making this collaboration possible.”

Caroline joined Maples and Calder in 2008 and was admitted as a Cayman Islands attorney-at-law in 2010. Like Shari, Caroline also completed her first secondment from Maples and Calder in 2011 with the Zurich office of Man Investments.

To date Maples and Calder has seconded a total of eight Caymanian attorneys to foreign offices within the firm or with clients of the firm.
