Miami, FL – October 8th, 2015 – MAX, the channel dedicated to offering the most award-winning films, series and international documentaries, announces the premiere of the second season of the Emmy® Award winning original series, “The Knick” on October 16th at 22hrs AST* in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States. Additionally, the first episode of this new season will also be broadcast on HBO and Cinemax, and will be available on HBO On Demand after it premieres on the channel.

One year ago television viewers were introduced to Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen, winner of a Golden Globe® Award, and nominated for an Oscar® and an Emmy® Award for his role in MAX’s The Knick and HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn) and his staff at the Knickerbocker Hospital at the turn of the 20th century. Under the direction of acclaimed director, Steven Soderbergh (Oscar® Award winner for Best Director for Erin Brockovich and Traffic, and an Emmy® Award for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie for HBO’s Behind the Candelabra), the period piece depicts the union between the newest medical technologies and the change in social customs during that time.

The second season picks up at a time of great upheaval in the lives of the protagonists. The absence of Thackery, who was hospitalized due to his cocaine addiction, the passing of wealthy patients and financial problems cause the closure of the hospital in the city’s downtown region, forcing them to open their doors in upstate New York. While the plans for relocation move forward, Algernon Edwards (André Holland), the talented African-American surgeon whose love affair with the hospital’s benefactor, Cornelia Robertson (Juliet Rylance), ends in an abortion in the first season, works fervently to succeed Thackery as Chief Surgeon at the Knickerbocker Hospital. Additionally, the doctors, administrators, nurses, and nuns must all deal with various changes as well as personal and professional challenges.

The actors returning to the new season of The Knick are: Eve Hewson as nurse Lucy, who, in Thackery’s absence, is courted by Cornelia’s persistent brother Henry, played by Charles Aitken; Jeremy Bobb as Herman Barrow, who continues to struggle financially; Michael Angarano as Dr. “Bertie” Chickering, Jr., who finds himself with a broken heart after finding out about Lucy and Thackery’s relationship; Cara Seymour, as Sister Harriet, who was jailed for performing abortions; and Chris Sullivan (HBO’s The Normal Heart), an ambulance driver who is willing to pay for Harriet’s legal costs.

The series also includes performances by Grainger Hines as August Robertson; Tom Lipinski as Phillip; Michael Nathanson as Dr. Levi Zinberg; Zaraah Abrahams as Opal; Perry Yung as Ping Wu; and Arielle Goldman as Genevieve, among others.

The Knick was created by Jack Amiel & Michael Begler and is directed by the acclaimed Steven Soderbergh, who also serve as executive producers along with Gregory Jacobs (HBO’s Behind the Candelabra), Michael Sugar and Clive Owen. The Knick is produced by Michael Polaire (HBO’s Behind the Candelabra).
