Medical student among 2 busted with cocaine strapped to body at Ogle IAP

A medical student attached to the University of Guyana and another Barbados bound passenger were nabbed at the Ogle International Airport with a quantity of cocaine strapped to their bodies on Friday evening.
The medical student, Lovern Hendricks, 39, of Lot 3592 Phase Two West Minster, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was busted with six parcels of the illegal substance, which weighed 1.372 kilograms, strapped to her body. On the other hand, Angel Smith, 23, of Lot 945 Phase One West Minster, WBD, was also found with six parcels of cocaine which weighed 976 gramsstrapped to her body.
Both Fredericks and Smith were about to board a LIAT flight out of Ogle International Airport destined for Barbados at about 20:40h. According to information received, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch made the bust after the ladies were seen acting in a suspicious manner while at the check-in counter.
The ranks immediately went over to the young ladies to enquire if everything was okay,suspecting that something was amiss. The two ladies were taken into a room where they were patted down by female ranks who found the drugs concealed in their bras and crotches.
They were immediately taken into custody and the cocaine was weight in their presence. The amountweighedtoyalled over two kilograms. They were taken to the Narcotics Unit at Eve Leary where they will be interrogated. Charges are expected to be laid shortly.
In May, Zainad Mohammed, 29, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who was about to board a LIAT flight to Barbados was busted at the Ogle International Airport while attempting to smuggle 1.462 kilograms of cocaineout of the country.
The woman, based on reports, had already checked in and was about to clear immigration when the ranks of the drug enforcement agency suspected that something was amiss. The housewife was pulled from the queue and questioned, during which she started to act in a suspicious manner.
She was then patted down by a female rank and the cocaine was found tightly strapped to her abdomen. She was placed before the court and was remanded to prison.
Two days prior to Mohammed’s arrest, a Surinamese national was arrested attempting to smuggle 214 grams of cocaine on her person. Again, the interception was made by members of the Police Narcotics Branch while the woman was at the check-in counter.
It was reported that based on her suspicious movements, the Police asked to conduct a search of her person. The cocaine was discovered and weighed.
At that point, the woman also admitted to swallowing a quantity of cocaine pellets. She was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she subsequently excreted 25 pellets. She was charged and remanded to prison.
