Memory loss what can we do?
The aging community, particular the single independent person is very concerned about their health. There are many reasons for this and let’s just say it is not only normal but necessary. And one of the most dreaded hazards of aging is memory loss. Oh we joke about it; we laugh about some of the more off the track ideas to protect us but the truth is we are worried and don’t see a lot of options. After all, we see our friends struggling with this, we hear about it on the news, in the newspaper, at the card games, in church; we just can’t get away from it.
And at this time, there really is no way to tell who will have memory loss and who won’t. However there are some things we can do to help ourselves. Just like muscles we can help our brain stay healthy with some easy activity, taking a walk is a good use of brain power and gives us some strength that we will not get any other way; getting plenty of rest (7-8 hours a night) allows our body and brain to get ready for the next day; eating the right foods to feed our brain (fish is an excellent food, also fruit and vegetables); taking good care of our bodies, should we have a disease (high blood pressure, diabetes or others take especially good care of this); play games which give us practice in thinking, such as counting games (Sudoku, Dominos, cards) and reduce stress in our lives (each day make a conscience effort to spend at least 30 minutes meditating, watching birds, listening to music and so many more activities) which will reduce stress in our life.
There is no all-around magic cure to keep from getting memory loss. However each of these things will help you have less memory dysfunction; in other words think more clearly. Thinking more clearly will help us not worry so much and thus the end of a vicious circle.
