Migrants on Cayman Brac

The Immigration Department reports that 11 Cuban migrants are currently in the care of its Cayman Brac officers.

The group consists of nine males and two females, who say they were at sea for six days.  Among these are two repeat migrants.

The vessel was sighted at around 10am this morning (Friday, 28 September 2018).  It was then hailed by Immigrations and Customs officers, who quickly determined it to be a hazard to those on board. For safety reasons the boat and its occupants were towed to shore, whereupon it promptly sank.

The group appears to be in good health. They will be checked by doctors on Cayman Brac, before being processed by Immigration officers and sent to Grand Cayman at a later date.
