Cayman Islands Minister Seymour Tours Departments

Minister of Health, Environment, Culture and Housing, Hon. Dwayne Seymour, began touring departments within his portfolio last week.

The tour started on Tuesday (11 July 2017) with the Department of Health Regulatory Services, when the Hon. Minister met Director Mervyn Conolly and his staff.

A former board member of the Health Insurance Commission, Minister Seymour told the department’s personnel that he looked forward to working with them to ensure that everyone in the Cayman Islands has adequate health insurance coverage.

The tour continued on Thursday, when Minister Seymour visited Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town to meet with staff of the Health Services Authority (HSA). He was greeted by HSA’s Chief Executive Officer Lizzette Yearwood HSA Board Chairman Jonathan Tibbetts and other members of the senior management team.

Minister Seymour visited a number of hospital departments and wards, while being briefed on the important functions of each area.

George Town landfill became the focus of attention on Friday when Minister Seymour was joined by Capt. Eugene Ebanks, Councillor for the Environment, to tour the Department of Environmental Health (DEH).

Familiarising themselves with the important issues of waste management, Minister Seymour and Capt. Eugene were greeted by DEH Director Roydell Carter, at the department’s headquarters on North Sound Road. The party then moved to the dispatch centre on Lincoln Drive where the elected officials spoke to garbage collection workers and other employees.

“I want you to know that all your hard work is appreciated by us and the people of the Cayman Islands,” said Minister Seymour. “Do not think that we have forgotten you, we are aware of all that you are doing and how important it is.”

The Ministerial party then concluded the DEH tour with a drive around the landfill to see personally the ongoing work at the facility.

“This has been a very educational few days as I meet with staff and learn first-hand the issues that we are facing, as well as the good work that is being done,” said Minister Seymour.

Minister Seymour was accompanied on his tours by the Ministry’s Chief Officer Jennifer Ahearn, policy advisors and other members of the Ministry team. His departmental tours will continue later this week.
