George Town, Grand Cayman, 18 March 2024 – The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development (PAHITD) is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive survey aimed at gathering valuable insights to inform the development of the Public and Affordable Housing Policy & Ten-Year Strategic Plan.
“The future of housing in the Cayman Islands is a priority for our government, and we are committed to ensuring that our policies reflect the needs and aspirations of our communities,” said Honourable Johany “Jay” Ebanks, Minister of PAHITD. “This survey presents an invaluable opportunity for all of Cayman’s residents to share their perspectives and shape the direction of housing policies for the next decade.”
The survey, titled “Public and Affordable Housing Policy & Ten-Year Strategic Plan: Shaping Our Future Together,” is designed to engage residents across the Cayman Islands in sharing their perspectives, experiences, and suggestions regarding housing affordability, preferences, and strategies for creating more accessible housing options for all.
“We recognize the critical importance of addressing housing challenges and ensuring that every Caymanian has access to safe, affordable housing,” said Honourable Johany “Jay” Ebanks. “This survey is a crucial step in our commitment to developing inclusive and sustainable housing policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of our communities. We want to hear from residents of all ages, backgrounds, and districts. I strongly encourage everyone to participate.“
Following an extensive public consultation period, the launch of this survey is the next step to further engage with residents and gather diverse viewpoints.
The survey covers a wide range of topics, including demographic information, current housing status, affordability concerns, housing preferences, strategies for housing creation, and the vision for the future of housing policies in the Cayman Islands.
The survey will be available online at www.CIHousingPlan.org starting today, Monday, March 18 and will remain open for 30 days, through April 16. All responses will be confidential and analysed by the public policy firm Public Works LLC, responsible for producing the report for PAHITD.
As a token of appreciation for participating in the survey, respondents will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for gift cards, with names kept separate from survey responses to ensure confidentiality.
