Miss Universe supports mission of Cayman Islands hospital
From South Florida Caribbean News
CAYMAN ISLANDS – Positively impacted by Health City Cayman Islands‘ humanitarian approach to healthcare, the reigning Miss Universe has pledged her support to advance the mission of the internationally-accredited facility.
During her visit to Health City Cayman Islands, Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines spent time with children from Bolivia who received lifesaving heart surgeries through the efforts of Health City and its partner organizations.
“Looking forward to working further with the hospital and doctors on their ongoing mission,” said Miss Wurtzbach who toured the Caribbean hospital while in Grand Cayman for the Pinoy Pride Independence Celebrations.
“On behalf of all the staff I would like to say thanks. It was especially great for the Bolivian children who were operated on here – they are from really underprivileged circumstances and they had serious cardiac problems, multiple holes in the heart,” said Dr. Binoy Chattuparambil, Chief Cardiac Surgeon and Senior Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at Health City.
“They did not have enough money to afford the surgery any other place, so when this world famous celebrity came and interacted with these kids and their mothers, it was something great for them,” said Dr. Chattuparambil who believes Miss Wurtzbach’s reaction helps to strengthen the reputation of Health City as a compassionate, patient-centered facility.
“It was a pleasure to meet the children from Bolivia along with Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, at Health City Cayman Islands,” said the equally elegant Monique Brooks, Miss Cayman Islands 2016. “Bringing smiles to their faces makes the job of being Miss Cayman even more fulfilling. I look forward to more opportunities like these with Health City Cayman Islands and commend their efforts towards changing lives one child at a time.”
Health City Cayman Islands has treated vulnerable, underprivileged children from almost a dozen countries. From as far as Africa, to Bolivia in South America, and from neighboring Jamaica, almost 100 children’s lives have been saved by this program.
To carry out its mission, Health City Cayman Islands partners with organizations such as Have a Heart Cayman, Samaritan’s Purse, World Pediatric Project and Operation Blessing International.
“We thank Miss Universe and Miss Cayman Islands for making these children’s visit to the Cayman Islands even more special,” said Dr. Chandy Abraham, CEO and Director of Medical Services at Health City.
