Money raised for Virginia student badly injured in Cayman Islands
Harrison Strong 5K raises $30,000 for family of injured James River High student
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Runners, walkers and corporate sponsors raised more than $30,000 Saturday for the family Chesterfield teen Harrison Zierenberg. The money was raised during the Harrison Strong 5K at ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center in Midlothian.
Zierenberg, a student at James River High, was seriously injured when he was hit by a minivan while crossing the road while on Spring Break in the Cayman Islands with his family in April. Zierenberg just recently returned to Richmond to continue therapy and recovery at VCU Medical Center.
“We have been waiting for this day, dreaming of this day. To see the families and the friends and the businesses and the whole community come together, just reminds us of what life is really all about. It has motivated Harrison tremendously just to get back home,” Harrison’s mother Leeann Zierenberg said. “I think as Harrison heals, we are all healing together, which is an amazing thing.”
“I just said ‘hi honey, I love you, this is all for you,’” Leeann Zierenberg said.
She added her son is “doing really well” and “exceeding all goals” his doctors have laid out.
“God is good and prayers are working,” she said.
