CHTA/CHRIS Takeaways
Nicola Madden-Greig, OD
Nicola Madden-Greig, president of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), delivered a riveting address at the 14th annual Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) in Miami last week, calling on investors and tourism decision-makers to reap the benefits of partnership and collaboration by joining hospitality trade associations, which are essential to the success of the tourism industry.
Here are some key takeaways:
- Global and Caribbean demand for travel is robust
- Tourism industry continues to lead region’s recovery
- Recovery and growth is uneven, with some destinations outpacing others
- The region is not immune from industry-wide challenges such as rising operating costs, labor shortages, increasing airfares, global competition, economic uncertainty, and pressures from some governments to increase taxes
- Segments such as Health & Wellness, Sustainable Tourism, Events present new opportunities
- Effective local linkages advance broader economy, build goodwill and create a ‘sense of place’
- Despite challenges, stakeholders remain bullish about the future of tourism in the Caribbean
- Multi-sector regional and international collaboration will be key to dealing with issues around climate change and sustainability
- Private sector must lead. More investors, influencers and decision-makers should be active in CHTA and local hotel and tourism associations

Social Media Design Guide
Social media management is a resource-intensive function that requires both quantitative efficiency and qualitative input. There are multiple functions within social media management, one of which is creative and design development, which is most challenging. Here’s a design guide to help your creative teams.
- Color Psychology: Colors evoke emotions and responses that play a crucial role in message receptivity. Understand your brand’s colors and complement them with similar shades to create a balanced graphic.
- Contrast and Legibility: Ensure sufficient contrast between the background, key subject and text colors to ensure readability. Use primary fonts that are brand-associated and secondary fonts that are easy to read.
- Cultural Considerations: Be mindful of messages, images, colors and symbols that carry a cultural association. Always run creatives through an in-house quality assurance process to avoid any issues and miscommunication.
- A/B Testing: Test a combination of colors, realistic images, illustrations, fonts and templates to understand what resonates with your audience. Test and keep testing.
These are only a few considerations to help your design and creative teams. Reach out to us for an in-depth analysis and to discuss creative needs. And remember, effective social media deployment takes time.
This year’s World Blood Donor Day takes place on June 14, 2023.
It provides a special opportunity to celebrate and thank voluntary blood donors around the world for their gift of blood and has become a major focus for action towards achieving universal access to safe blood transfusion.
According to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), “Every year, thousands of people receive lifesaving blood transfusions, a process which would not be possible without voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors. Blood donation is a community responsibility. There is a great chance that someone you know or even you yourself may need a blood transfusion at some point.”
Countries are encouraged to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people, in particular transfusion-dependent patients, whose lives have been saved through blood or plasma donation as a way of motivating blood and plasma donation.
