Ms. Kimberley Davis is the Department of Immigration’s new Director of Boards and Work Permits. She brings to the position a depth of knowledge and experience from the private and public sectors, as well as experience as a small-business owner.

Ms. Davis took up the position  Monday, 26 March. Managing over 40 staff members in this section, she considers her top overall aims to be improving efficiencies and decreasing processing times.

These key initiatives will entail collaborating with the respective chairpersons to enhance the productivity of the Work Permit Board, the Business Staffing Plan Board and the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board. Her office also works closely with the Department of Employment Relations (DER).

Ms. Davis has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding career, blending civil service passions with private sector experience and exposure.

Before this move to Immigration Ms. Davis was the Deputy Managing Director of the Cayman Islands Government’s Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) – her second stint with that organisation. She served as Head of Finance and Investments in an earlier attachment. Her key accomplishment then, she said, was updating the PSPB’s financial reporting backlog.

Valuable overseas experience was gained when Ms. Davis worked with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services in New York City from 2005 to 2009. There, she served in several capacities, including managing the firm’s corporate forensic think-tank and working with global partners to develop service-line offerings.

She had prior experience with Deloitte, serving in Financial Advisory Services in the Cayman Islands office.

During her time with Deloitte’s Cayman office, Ms. Davis became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She had earlier obtained her Master of Business Administration degree from Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Management, as well as a Bachelor of Arts, with Distinction, from Connecticut College – where she double-majored in economics and urban sociology.

Her civil service exposure actually began more than 20 years ago, when she worked as a college intern during summer breaks, later joining as a full-time administrative officer with the Portfolio of Finance and Economic Development.

In 1997 she became the first Listing Executive with the new Cayman Islands Stock Exchange. Thereafter, she became a project Officer, playing key roles on a range of government change initiatives such as the Reinvention of Public Services as well as the Financial Management Reform Initiative.
