New Year, new improvements at Grand Cayman’s Sunset House
From Sport Diver
Voted “One of the Top Dive Resorts in the Caribbean” by Scuba Diving’s readers in its 2019 Readers Choice Awards, Grand Cayman’s Sunset House continues to raise the bar on guest experiences to satisfy their dedicated repeat visitors.
Already this year Sunset House has launched the first of its two new dive boats, the Eagle Ray 2, a sturdy catamaran with twin Honda 250 outboards, a top speed of 32 knots and a custom-built interior. Guests are guaranteed a smooth ride in Eagle Ray 2’s cat hull, just as with the resort’s 5 custom dive boats. With an experienced crew of Instructors, divers are guaranteed hours of enjoyment exploring the dozens of dive sites that Grand Cayman is famous for.

Sunset House also has a new look — the entire resort has been updated with vibrant tropical Caribbean colors. Relax after your dive in well-kept gardens, on the tranquil pool deck overlooking turquoise waters, or at the famous My Bar with a Cayman Sunset cocktail in hand.
The resort’s shore-side access has had a major update as well, adding a new boat dock as well as pathways and stairs into Sunset House’s ocean-fed sea pool. The dive shop has added new set-up benches and roomy dive lockers to increase the convenience and access to the boats and shore diving.

With new dive management in place, Sunset Divers is proud to continually update their staff’s training, having recently earned two risk assessment certificates from DAN (Divers Alert Network). Throughout the year the dive crew is diligently practicing emergency simulations and drills to ensure guest and staffs safety.
Sunset House also gives back to the oceans we love with its coral nursery, containing five coral “trees” growing Staghorn (Acropora cervicornis) coral colony fragments. Once the appropriate size and maturity are reached, these colonies are out-planted onto reefs around Grand Cayman, in partnership the Cayman Islands Department of Environment. And divers can get involved: Sunset House offers lectures as well as dives to visit the nursery and aid in its upkeep.

Sunset House
Sunset House has been welcoming divers to the Cayman Islands for more than 60 years. It is the only resort in the Cayman Islands designed and operated by divers, for divers. It’s one of the only resorts on Grand Cayman that has its own coral reef, with the wreck of the Nicholson and coral nursery in shallow water right off shore. Underwater visibility on Sunset House’s reef can exceed 200 feet, and a remarkable variety of marine life can be seen there. And no visit to Sunset House is complete without a dive to Amphitrite, the resort’s spectacular 9’ bronze sculpture of a mermaid, one of the most popular shore dive sites in the world.
