On Tuesday 05 November 2013, Gene Thompson, Richard Parchment and Harry Chandi met with Hon. Mark Simmonds – Parliamentary Under Secretary for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and discussed Health City Cayman Islands progress and benefits to the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean region. The presentation was well received and Minister Simmonds mentioned the possibility of HCCI working with overseas territories in the region.
Health City Commences Local Employment
Health City has recently hired four Caymanians for the following positions: Marketing Manager, Human Resource (HR) Manager, plus two additional senior positions.
Through the end of October, Health City has averaged 69% Caymanian labour on-site. We are pleased to say that the labour force has performed very well. In addition to local labour, over 40 independent local heavy equipment operators have been utilised.
About Health City Cayman Islands
Health City Cayman Islands, scheduled to accept its first patients in early 2014, will open with a 140-bed tertiary-care hospital in Grand Cayman, as a Center of Excellence in the following areas:
Cardiac surgery
Cardiology
Orthopedics
Over the next decade, the hospital will expand to a 2,000-bed facility, and expects to be a JCI (Joint Commission International, USA) Accredited facility providing care in all major specialties including neurology, oncology and other cutting edge tertiary care services. The complex is also planned to have a medical university and an assisted-care living community.
Health City Cayman Islands is the vision of famed India heart surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty. As Chairman of Narayana Hrudayalaya, he oversees a network of 14 hospitals across India. Narayana Hrudayalaya, is joined in the first phase of the project by Ascension Health Alliance, the largest private not for profit health network in the United States.
The relationship between Ascension Health Alliance and Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals was begun through TriMedx, a healthcare equipment services company that is a subsidiary of Ascension Health Alliance’s AH Holdings. TriMedx has begun providing biomedical engineering services to NH hospitals in Bangalore, India, through its subsidiary TriMedx International.
The Health City Cayman Islands initiative gives the partners the opportunity to positively impact the care being provided in the Caribbean region.
In addition to providing high-quality healthcare to Cayman residents, this initiative also will serve those who are poor and vulnerable by providing them high-quality healthcare services.
Ascension Health Alliance will provide facilities planning, supply chain management and biomedical engineering services to the project, while Narayana Hrudayalaya will provide technical input and direction to the Cayman team.
The hospital will come up near High Rock in the East End District of Grand Cayman. The first phase would be built by the Cayman Healthcare Construction Group, a joint venture between Caledonia Construction Cayman and healthcare construction specialists Deangelis Diamond Healthcare Group.
