IT’S A NEW TERM!

Greetings!

It’s getting busy again at the National Gallery! Our summer term has ended and we’ve started a new set of exciting educational courses and programmes for adults and students of all ages. In addition to our busy schedule of courses we encourage you to come out and view the new exhibition Images of Yesteryear, an exciting body of historical photographs brought to you courtesy of Walkers, The National Gallery and Cayman Islands National Archive.

There are so many ways to get involved in the National Gallery this term, from becoming a volunteer to joining us at our annual fundraising gala. To help you keep track of everything that’s going on we’ve redesigned our weekly eBulletin and would love to hear what you think.

About Us

Established in 1996, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is a vibrant arts organisation that seeks to fulfill its mission through exhibitions, artist residencies, education/outreach programmes, and research projects.

The NGCI operates in both a local and global arena. As part of our mission to “promote and encourage the appreciation and practice of the visual arts, of and in the Cayman Islands”  we send Caymanian art and artists abroad as well as have many fine international artists visit, exhibit and work in the Cayman Islands.

Images of Yesteryear features memorable photographs from the Cayman Islands

Images of Yesteryear features some of the most memorable photographs found in the Cayman Islands National Archives. Brought together by Walkers, the collection chronicles the social and cultural history of the Cayman Islands from 1900 to the 1960s – a time when life moved at a different pace.

Photographs have been drawn from the collections of Aarona Kohlman, Ira Thompson, Helen Hirst Gamble, Ivor O. Smith, Marcia Bodden – Bush, Jack Cohen, Robert Maase and others.

The Gallery Shop

For all your paint requirements!

The Gift Shop is located in the National Gallery’s lower exhibition hall. Proceeds from the Gallery Gift Shop help to fund our Exhibitions and Education Programmes.

Exhibition Reception Volunteers Needed!

Being an Exhibition Reception Volunteer requires a weekly commitment. We’re looking to fill the following time slots:

Wed. 1:30 PM to 5 PM

Wed. 10 AM to 1:30 PM

Thur. 10 AM to 1:30 PM

Thur. 1:30 PM to 5 PM

Fri. 1:30 PM to 5 PM

Maples Art Library

This DVD is available from the National Gallery.

M. C. Escher, was a Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints.

The Maples Art Library

is the largest Visual Arts library in Cayman.

Whether you are an art student or just interested in the arts…

come and take a look. You will find books and DVDs on artists, art techniques, galleries, collections and management, film, and all that is the visual arts!

Donating Books
