Nine arrested in George Town Operation, one man charged for Firearm Offences
Just after 1PM on Friday, 18th March, a joint operation between RCIPS & CBC was conducted at a bar and other establishments near the junction of Shedden Road and Eastern Avenue.
During the operation a 26-year-old-man of George Town, who attempted to evade the officers at the location was detained and searched. During the search, a loaded handgun was found in his possession. He was arrested in relation to the firearm and taken into custody, where he remained pending further investigation.
The man has since been formally charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition). He appeared before the court today, Monday 21st March where he was remanded to return on Friday 1 April.
A number of persons and premises were searched resulting in officers recovering vegetable matter resembling ganja, illegal gambling paraphernalia and a significant quantity of cash was seized as criminal property. This led to the arrest of eight (8) other persons for:
1. A 44-year-old-man of George Town on suspicion of possession of ganja and possession of ganja with intent to supply.
2. A 32-year-old-woman of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling.
3. A 67-year-old-man of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling.
4. A 34-year-old-man of East End on suspicion of possession of ganja.
5. A 19-year-old-woman of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling and operating a common gaming house.
6. A 33-year-old-woman of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling and operating a common gaming house.
7. A 22-year-old-woman of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling and operating a common gaming house.
8. A 47-year-old-woman of George Town on suspicion of illegal gambling and operating a common gaming house.
These matters are all on-going and are being investigated by the police.
