Nominations open for Cayman Islands ‘Proud of Them’
The public is invited to recognise excellence among young people in the Cayman Islands by submitting nominations to the Proud of Them award scheme. The nomination period runs from 16 October – 6 November 2017.
Youth ages 10 – 25 who are reaching new heights of achievement in academics, sports, their career, culture, business or community service can be nominated.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements and drive of our brightest and most accomplished youth,” said Minister of Youth, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly. “We need the community’s input to ensure that we honour those who are worthy of praise and are role models for their peers,” she added urging residents to submit their nominations.
Begun in 2012 to highlight the exceptional young people, the Proud of Them award also showcases young persons’ initiative and positive attitude. To date 84 young men and women have been recognised.
The Ministry of Youth is again partnering with the National Youth Commission to continue the programme.
“Society must commemorate the accomplishments of youth,” said the Head of the Commission Reverend Donovan Myers. “As a community, we need to be strong advocates for our young people. Many of them are distinguishing themselves in their chosen fields and our recognition of their efforts can help inspire them and their peers to greater heights,” he added.
The twelve successful awardees will be announced at a reception on November 29th. Each recipient will receive a financial award and their image will be featured for a six-month period on billboards across the Cayman Islands.
