Rotary Club of Grand Cayman House of Horrors

Continue the spirit of the spooky season  at The Rotary Club of Grand  Cayman’s Halloween House of Horrors. Located next to Caribbean Canvas Company on The Crescent,  the haunted house will be open Thursday 31 October – Saturday 2 November from 6:30-10:30pm. Admission is CI$10 and can be purchased on the door or from any Rotary Club of Grand Cayman member. Children ten and under must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds will benefit charities supported by the Club.

Cayman Islands Humane Society: Dog/Cat Adoption Show

The Cayman Islands Humane Society is holding road shows where visitors can meet and greet the shelter’s adorable and friendly residents. Festival of Trees Dinner & Live Auction

The Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) Festival of Trees Dinner & Auction is the organisation’s largest fundraising event of the year. This popular annual event celebrates another year of successful work in the fields of education,  research  and conservation  whilst raising funds t o support the operational needs of the Little Cayman Research Centre. The Lemon Run 5K

Join the fight against  childhood  cancer  by participating at this international 5k run to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand  Foundation  (ALSF). ALSF emerged from the front yard lemonade  stand  of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a worldwide fundraising movement,  complete  with thousands of supporters  across  the world carrying on her legacy of hope.  Entry fee is CI$25 and to register, contact Danielle at 926-2084 or [email protected].

3rd Annual Camana Bay Catboat Championship

Celebrate the Remembrance  Day public holiday with Camana  Bay and  the Cayman  Catboat  Club. Part of North Side Heritage Day; the Championship is a series of four exciting catboat  races  in which sailors compete  to accumulate  points in the hope of being named the Camana Bay National Catboat Champion. Races will take place off Kaibo Public Beach starting at 10am, and the Catboat Club will have an information booth showcasing past and present competitors, sharing cultural and historical information on one of the oldest Caymanian traditions and offering free catboat rides to the public.

Cayman Islands Underwater Film Festival

The Cayman Islands Tourism Association is once again hosting the Underwater Photography Competition in conjunction with the 9th Annual International Underwater Film Festival. This year’s festival will cover five categories: Fish/Turtles/Stingrays, Unusual, Critters/Macro, Scenic and Creative. Push Across Cayman Dinner

Reed Alexander: Kewl Bites 100 nutritious, delicious and family-friendly dishes

Budding foodies are invited to join teen celebrity Reed Alexander for the Cayman Islands launch of KewlBites™: 100 Nutritious, Delicious, and Family-Friendly Dishes. As a busy teen star, Reed Alexander’s life is a balancing act. Having lost sight of how to eat right several years  ago  while juggling career  commitments and school, he became overweight and as a result was exhausted and lethargic. Too tired to keep  up with his hectic schedule, he decided to reclaim his health by changing his diet. A can-do guy, his first step was to learn how to cook for himself. Unable to find any recipes suited to a teenager’s tastes, he rolled up his sleeves  and set to work in his kitchen, developing healthy versions of the foods he loves. Along the way, he became  a dedicated  cook, sharing his culinary discoveries with his fans and friends on his web site, KewlBites.com. Part of the International Visiting Author Series,  this free event will include a cooking demonstration at Bon Vivant, group discussion and book signing.

Drum Circle

Professional drummers Randy Chollette, Damian Thaxter and Eden Hurlston  of the musical group I AM PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE  will bring the Town Centre to life with a jam session featuring African, Cuban  and Caymanian rhythms. The group was formed to promote brotherhood,  unity an d cultural development through the integration of music. Members of the public are invited to join in with their own instruments and will be given pointers throughout the session. So bring your instrument if you’d  like to jam, bring your voice if you want to sing, or simply listen and enjoy an evening of rhythm and beats!

2nd Annual Push Across Cayman

Watch Ryan Chalmers, Brian Siemann and Aaron Pike cross  the finish line for an inspiring race recognizing all persons  with disabilities. These three paralympian’s are a part of Stay-Focused, a non-profit organization and will push the 55-mile route across Cayman on Sunday 17 November. Kids are encouraged  to bring their bikes and join the paralympians as they cross the finish line on Market Street and do a victory lap around Cayman International School.

Ron Kipp, a former Air Force officer who served  in Vietnam, was living in suburban  Ohio and quickly climbing the corporate ladder at IBM. It appeared he had everything, yet Ron felt restless and unhappy—until he risked it all to pursue his dream of owning a scuba  diving business  in the Cayman Islands. In his new book, From ‘Big Blue’ to the Deep Blue: How  I Jumped Off the Corporate Ladder at IBM and Into My Dream of Owning  a Cayman Islands Dive Center, Ron revisits the dawning days of dive travel, giving readers  an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at a pivotal time in the scuba  industry and shares  stories of the epic fails and thrilling successes associated with his life-changing move to the tropics. Cayman Hospice Care: Light Up a Life

The annual “Light up a Life” ceremony takes place  in Cassia  Court where people  meet for the traditional gathering to celebrate the life of loved ones. The event revolves around a tree which is illuminated by hundreds of lights shining like stars in remembrance of friends and  family. The public is invited to attend  this moving event and add individual lights to the Cayman Hospice community memorial.
