Olympians meet young swimmers
Three British swimmers who have been selected for the Olympic Games in London this summer, swam alongside a group of young Cayman swimmers in the Lions Pool.
The three swimmers were: Caitlin McClatchey who qualified for the Olympics in the 200m Freestyle; Amy Smith who qualified for the Olympics in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, and Joe Roebuck qualified for the Olympics in 200m Butterfly, 200m & 400m.
The three swimmers are visiting Cayman as part of a pre-Olympics training programme provided by the British Olympics Association, where qualifying Olympians get a chance to train outside their country.
Not only did the young Caymanians get a chance to swim alongside their ‘heroes’ during a training session but the three Olympians’ coach, Ian Armiger, gave the young swimmers a free ‘Clinic’ intended to help them polish their technique.
Mr. Armiger has been spending time on the pool deck at the Lions Aquatic Centre (LAC) meeting with representatives from CIASA (Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association), Camana Bay Aquatic Club (CBAC) and Stingray Swim Club (SSC).
