One patient dies after three contract HIV from contaminated blood in T&T
By Ria Taitt, Trinidad Express From St Lucia Online
Asked by Caroni East MP Dr Tim Gopeesingh whether there was any claim before the Government for compensation on behalf of the family of the deceased, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young stated in Parliament yesterday: “The first point that needs to be made is that this person who unfortunately has passed away is not (dead) as a result of his contamination.”
He said, however, the estate of a person who is deceased may continue to pursue action on his or her behalf.
Gopeesingh also asked about the compensation for the two other victims, one of whom was a child.
Young said as is customary in dealing with any issues of liability on behalf of the State, the first thing that needed to be done was a proper investigation in order to arrive at a decision on the State’s liability.
