The Joint Marine and Air Operations Units are involved in a search operation off Cayman Kai after an unmanned sailboat was found lodged on the reef this morning.

About 10.00am today police received a report that the 25’ sailboat was lodged on the reef just east of the Cayman Kai channel. The Marine Unit attended and found that no-one was on board.

The Marine unit, assisted by a private vessel, removed the boat from the reef and it is currently being towed to the Joint Marine base.

Enquiries with friends and family of the boat owner confirm that he left from Rackley’s Canal in North Sound to go fishing yesterday morning around 7am. He has not been in contact with them since.

An air and sea search has been launched involving the Marine Unit, DOE and the RCIPS Air Operations Unit.

Further details will be made available in due course.
