Over 30 businesses join the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce’s Earth Day Clean-up

The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Earth Day Clean-up is just over one month away, and over 30 members have supported the environmental initiative as an event partner.

“It’s great to see so many businesses within the community committing themselves to protecting our environment and keeping our beaches, roads and parks clean and safe for everyone,” said Chamber CEO, Wil Pineau.

“The Chamber of Commerce has organised the Earth Day Clean-up for over 20 years now, and it’s clear that this initiative has had a significant impact on our community by raising awareness of recycling, reducing and reusing,” he added.

Last year, over 2,000 people donned their gloves and picked up a trash bag, setting a new record that the Chamber will hope to beat for the 2018 Clean-up which takes place on Saturday, April 21.

Volunteers are presented with limited edition Earth Day t-shirts designed by Dr. Guy Harvey, who has once again designed the clean-up logo. Volunteers are also presented with limited edition reusable bags and caps as a token of appreciation for taking part, and are provided with all of the necessary clean-up supplies. These supplies are provided by the Department of Environmental Health and Junk, and the Chamber of Commerce would like to thank them for their support of the initiative, and to the DEH for collecting all bags of trash after the clean-up.

The Earth Day Clean-up is not the only environmental initiative founded by the Chamber of Commerce. The organisation established the Environmental Pledge for local businesses, having them commit to reusing, reducing and recycling. The Chamber also worked with members to introduce 200 trash receptacles that were placed around Grand Cayman, and in 2018 will look to introduce a new anti-littering campaign, as outline in its Advocacy Agenda & Action Plan.

The clean-up will take place early on the morning (7:00 – 10:00 AM), with a complimentary breakfast held at George Town Yacht Club to reward the hard work of all volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering for the 2018 Earth Day Clean-up, then register your team online today by visiting http://www.caymanchamber.ky/earthday.html. T-shirts are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so you will need to register early to have the best chance of claiming a limited edition Guy Harvey designed shirt.
