Parliament will have “last word” on long-term EU budget
Insisting on having a seat at the negotiating table, Members of the European Parliament debated the upcoming EU summit next week.
The EPP Group said that the meeting of the European Council should include representatives of the European Parliament, which will ultimately have the power to approve or reject the budget.
EPP Group MEPs argued for an increase to 1.3% of EU GDP – up from 1.0% – to fill the funding gap left by net-donor Britain after Brexit.
They also said that the EU needs additional funding to tackle climate change, security and other issues.
